U.S. Job Applicants Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Coupang Inc., including its direct and indirect subsidiaries (“Company”, “we”, “our” or “us”) processes personal information of job applicants from the US (“Job Applicants”). This Privacy Policy also applies to
individuals who sign up to receive job alerts from the Company (“Job Alert Subscribers”).
Introduction. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information of individuals who apply for roles with the Company.
How We Use Your PI. In general, we will use the personal information for the purpose it was collected or for purposes compatible to that, as permitted or required by law, as necessary to carry out our contractual duties and obligations, upon obtaining your
explicit consent, or as otherwise provided in this Privacy Policy. For example, we may use your personal information in the following ways:
Collecting and processing employment applications, including verifying the Job Applicant’s identity, qualifications, work history professional background, and confirming eligibility for employment.
Communicating with Job Applicants about a current application or future job opportunities.
Evaluating an individual’s appropriateness for a particular position at the Company or promotion to a new position.
Recording, transcribing, documenting, and summarizing interview proceedings for evaluation and verification purposes.
Negotiating employment terms, including identity verification for offer issuance and supporting salary negotiation. Preparing employment contracts and pre-onboarding documentation, where an Job Applicant is offered a position.
Assessing Job Applicants’ fit for other current or future open positions.
Complying with statutory duties to make reasonable accommodations for Job Applicants and related obligations.
Complying with applicable state and federal Equal Employment Opportunity laws.
Security and fraud prevention; to safeguard company assets.
Ensuring compliance with the Company’s policies and procedures including those related to its assets, information systems, and data.
Facilitating other business administrative functions and strategic activities, such as for internal audits, compliance reviews, risk management, information technology and communications, and workforce planning applicable to the Company’s operations.
For purposes related to the safety of employees, customers, and the public.
Investigating complaints, grievances, and suspected violations of Company policies; establishing, responding to, and managing legal claims against the Company and/or its personnel including civil discovery in litigation.
Conducting Job Applicant satisfaction surveys, improving hiring process, interview procedures, and recruitment system
Complying with our record retention practices.
Sending job alert emails to Job Alert Subscribers about roles matching criteria they have selected (such as job title, location, department, or keywords), where the individual has explicitly opted in to receive such communications.
As required by applicable law.
Collection and Disclosure. To carry out the purposes and uses of personal information outlined in this Privacy Notice, we may collect and disclose your personal information to various third parties. For example, we may disclose your information to our related entities or affiliates; service providers or vendors such as third-party staffing agencies or similar entities that assist with our recruiting efforts; providers of recruitment, applicant tracking, and job alert technologies; providers of tools that enable us to record, transcribe, or summarize interviews (in accordance with applicable law); information technology support and data storage providers; and professional advisors. Please note that not all categories of information will be collected in every instance, and such information may not be disclosed to all categories of third parties in every instance.

We reserve the right to use current or past personal information collected from you and disclose it as necessary to third parties (a) if such information is subpoenaed; (b) to comply with federal, state, or local laws; (c) to comply with a civil, criminal, or regulatory inquiry, investigation, or summons by federal, state, or local authorities; (d) to cooperate with law enforcement agencies concerning conduct or activity that we reasonably and in good faith believe may violate federal, state, or local laws; (e) to conduct an investigation or exercise or defend a legal claim; (f) if we are sold, merge with a third-party, or are acquired by a third-party (collectively, “M&A Transactions”) (including where we share your personal information in connection with the due diligence process associated with a potential M&A Transaction); (g) if we are the subject of bankruptcy proceedings; (h) at your direction; and/or (i) when we deem it necessary or appropriate. Users should also be aware that courts of equity, such as U.S. Bankruptcy Courts, might have the authority under certain circumstances to permit personal information to be shared or transferred to third-parties without permission.
Some of the parties above (“Recipients”) may be located outside of the U.S., such as South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and other countries in which the Company or its affiliates has offices. If a Recipient is located in countries outside of the U.S., we transfer your personal data subject to data protection agreements to ensure adequate protecton for the transfer of personal information, and/ or take reasonable technical and organization mesures to safeguard personal information we transfer.
Sources of Personal Information. We may collect your personal information from the following sources, where permitted by applicable law:
You. We may collect personal information directly from you or through your use of our facilities or systems, when you send us an email, contact us by phone, or otherwise communicate or interact with us as an Job Applicant or Job Alert Subscriber.
Related entities and affiliates. We may collect information about you from our related entities and affiliates.
Social media and publicly accessible sources. We may collect information about you through your social media services consistent with your settings on such services or publicly available websites consistent with their terms of use, as permitted by applicable law.
Third parties. We may collect information about you as an Job Applicant from third parties, such as your references, background check vendors, recruiting and staffing agencies, or other third-party sources that are lawfully entitled to share your personal information with us. This may include service providers or contractors who collect or process your personal information on our behalf.
Retention. We retain your personal information as long as necessary for the purpose collected, to comply with legal or reporting obligations, and for our legitimate needs (e.g., resolving disputes, investigating claims). To determine the appropriate retention period, we consider various factors such as the sensitivity of your information; the potential risk of unauthorized access, use, or disclosure; the purposes for which we collect or process it; and applicable legal requirements or business needs.
For California Residents only: This Privacy Policy sets forth notice of Coupang’s data handling practices for compliance with the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018, as amended (“CCPA”). This California Residents section includes rights you may have under the CCPA. Terms used in this section have the meaning ascribed to them under the CCPA.
We do not sell or share the categories of personal information listed above (as those terms are defined under the CCPA), including personal information of individuals under the age of 16 years.
We do not use or disclose your sensitive personal information for purposes that, with limited exceptions, are not necessary for the (current/ future) job application related purposes for which we collect it or as reasonably expected by an average individual in this context or for other permitted purposes under the CCPA or as authorized by regulation.
You have the following rights, to the extent applicable and subject to certain limitations:
The Right to Know the categories of personal information collected about you; the categories of sources; the business or commercial purposes for which that information was collected, sold, or shared; the categories of third parties to whom the information was disclosed, sold, or shared; and the specific pieces of personal information collected.
The Right to Delete personal information we collected or maintain about you.
The Right to Request Correction of inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
The Right to Withdraw Consent where we process your personal information based on your consent.
The Right to Information about our use of automated decisionmaking technologies in connection with decisions that may produce legal or similarly significant effects, including information about the logic and factors used, and to opt out of such automated decisionmaking where applicable.
We will not retaliate against you for the exercise of any of these Rights.

We reserve the right to only respond to verifiable Requests to Know, Delete, or Correct, and you must provide sufficient information to verify your identity and/or authority to act on behalf of the individual. In general, we may ask you to provide identifying information that we already maintain about you. We may not be able to respond to your request or provide you with personal information if we cannot verify your identity or authority to make the request and confirm the personal information relates to you.
You may authorize a natural person or a business (i.e., Agent) to act on your behalf. When you submit a Request to Know, Correct, or Delete, the Agent must provide proof that you gave the Agent signed permission to submit the request, and you either must (i) verify your own identity with the business or (ii) directly confirm with us that you provide permission to the Agent.
Spouses, Dependents, Other Relatives, and Associates. Coupang collects your personal information if you are related to an individual working for Coupang or its Board of Directors, including to prevent potential conflicts of interest. If you have knowledge that the Company has collected personal information related to your spouse, dependent, other relatives, or associates for any reason, please share a copy of this Privacy Notice with all such individuals.
