Coupang Marketplace Seller Privacy Notice - Taiwan

In accordance with Taiwan’s Personal Data Protection Act, Coupang Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “we”, “us”, or “our”) discloses this Privacy Notice to the Coupang Marketplace Seller to explain how we will collect, process, use, transmit and protect the personal information provided by the Seller (data that can identify a specific natural person).

This Privacy Notice applies to the personal information submitted by legal person Seller and natural person Seller (hereinafter referred to as “Corporate Seller” and “Individual Seller”, collectively referred to as “Seller”, or “you”) in the use of Coupang Marketplace services, such as the information of the person in charge and contact information. Please note that when the Seller’s staff provides personal data of other natural persons, you shall guarantee that you have obtained the consent of those natural persons or have other legitimate grounds to provide such information to us.

1. What Personal Information We Collect

1 . 1 Seller recruitment
  • We obtain contact information such as phone or email address of potential Seller through public channels or community recruitment.
1 . 2 Seller Registration & Login
  • When registering, Seller will need to provide an account name, company registration name, email address and mobile phone number, and set a password.
  • During the registration stage, Seller will need to provide its information, including business registration number, Chinese and English name, company phone number, company address, company establishment/change registration form, bank account information (account number, account name and passbook cover) and the name of the representative, ID number, and front and back files of the ID card.
1 . 3 Information Management
  • Seller can add or edit the pickup address, contact person’s name and phone number in the marketplace website. Seller can also update the main contact number and email address.
1 . 4 Seller Service
  • We may obtain the name and contact information of the Seller’s contact person and may keep a record of communication during the service.
1 . 5 Website Use
  • When Seller uses the marketplace website, we will record the website login information and usage behavior.
1 . 6 Applying for Coupang Ads membership
  • When using the Coupang Ads service, Seller shall log in with the account on the marketplace website, and the Seller’s marketplace account information (including name, mobile phone number, and password) will be used for identity and account management.
  • During the process of using the Coupang Ads service, we will also record the Seller’s login information and usage behavior.
1 . 7 Freely choose to provide information
  • Please note that Seller can freely choose whether to provide all types of personal information according to the purpose of collection (see Article 2), if Seller chooses not to provide complete and accurate information, the purpose may not be achieved (e.g., failure to pass the risk review).

2. Why We Collect and How We Use Your Personal Information

We collect, process, and use personal information for the following purposes based on the performance of contractual and legal obligations, or based on similar contractual relationships, or from public channels and generally available sources, or with the consent of the Seller.

2 . 1 Seller recruitment

  • We will call potential Seller for cooperation opportunities (potential Seller can express their reluctance to accept cooperation contacts on the phone) and send cooperation information to potential Seller’ email addresses to facilitate the establishment of a contractual relationship.

2 . 2 Verify and connect

  • The mobile phone number and email address provided by the Seller will be used as “send verification code” and “business contact” or “benefit notice”.
  • During the registration stage, Seller will need to provide its information, including business registration number, Chinese and English name, company phone number, company address, company establishment/change registration form, bank account information (account number, account name and passbook cover) and the name of the representative, ID number, and front and back files of the ID card.

2 . 3 Identity verification and risk review

  • As required by law, we use Seller data and transaction data to confirm the identity or identity risk of users.
  • If the Seller changes their password or similar needs to identify their identity, we will also ask the Seller to provide information to verify their identity.

2 . 4 Information Disclosure

  • Corporate Seller’s company name, person in charge, uniform number, telephone number, email address, registered business address, and Individual Seller’s business name will be publicly disclosed in the Seller information area of our apps and websites for customers to shop, and customers may contact the Seller based on the aforementioned disclosure information; Customers can also contact the Seller by obtaining the contact number of the Corporate Seller or Individual Seller through the system’s call function, and it is recommended to avoid providing a private phone number when registering.

2 . 5 Execute trades

  • Logistics pickup / return
    We will use the address provided by the Seller to pick up/return the item and contact the Seller by phone, email or other means provided by the Seller’s contact to confirm the details if necessary. We may also provide the Seller with necessary information to the customer for the purpose of assisting the Seller in performing its contract with the customer, fulfilling its legal obligations, or ensuring security, and the customer will contact the Seller directly (for example, if the product needs to be recalled in accordance with laws and regulations, Coupang policies, or Seller regulations).
  • Invoice issuance
    We will provide the Seller’s company information and contact person (or responsible person) name and contact information to the e-invoicing platform service provider that cooperates with us and has a separate agreement with the Seller to facilitate us to assist in issuing e-invoices for the Seller.

2 . 6 Seller Services

  • We will contact and reply to the Seller based on the name and contact information provided by the Seller when consulting, seeking support, or filing a complaint.
  • In order to ensure the rights and interests of both parties and to accurately convey information, we will use the communication records of both parties to confirm the appropriateness and accuracy of our provision of Seller services.

2 . 7 Market analysis and research

  • In order to meet market demand to the greatest extent, we analyze the ordering status of various types of products to help us make the right business decisions.
  • We also arrange survey interviews from time to time, with the consent of the Seller’s staff, to ask for valuable suggestions for our services.

2 . 8 Marketing

  • We use your contact information and usage behavior to push or send you recommended marketing information, including our Coupang Ads service, and may select the target audience for marketing campaigns to send or push marketing messages or display related advertisements.

2 . 9 Prevent fraud and abuse

  • To ensure that our services are not abused, we use data to detect fraud or other improper behavior.

2 . 10 Account security

  • To protect the security of the Seller’ accounts, we use the Seller’ data (such as IP addresses) to identify or alert suspicious account login behavior.

2 . 11 Performance of obligations / exercise of rights

  • When we are legally obligated to submit data (e.g., criminal investigations in fraud cases) or when we exercise our rights (e.g., contractual dispute proceedings), we may be required to deliver the information provided by the Seller to necessary third parties (e.g., competent authorities, judicial authorities).

3. Who Will Obtain Your Personal Information and Where

To achieve the purpose of collecting personal information or to comply with legal requirements, we may need to store or provide Seller data to third parties under specific circumstances. These include:

3 . 1 Affiliated Companies
  • As a multinational corporation, Coupang shares numerous technological and human labor resources globally to support each other, providing the highest standards of service through consistent management.
  • We store Seller data in cloud spaces managed by affiliated companies in South Korea (and backup in Singapore as required), protecting Seller data and related systems according to the personal information protection regulations of Taiwan and South Korea.
  • We strictly limit the personnel of Coupang’s affiliated companies in South Korea, the United States and India to access Seller data only to the minimum extent necessary to support our operations.
3 . 2 Service providers
We use external service providers to assist us in our operations. To the extent necessary to achieve the purpose for which the data was collected, we will provide personal information to service providers according to business needs, including:
  • Third-party payment service providers (Taiwan) and their payment processing service providers (South Korea, the United States)
  • Acquiring banks (Taiwan) and trust account banks (Taiwan) cooperating with the third-party payment service providers
  • Logistics Service Providers (Taiwan)
  • E-invoice Service Providers (Taiwan)
  • Customer Service (Taiwan: Customer Service Personnel / Japan: Customer Service System)
  • Survey (Survey System: Australia)
3 . 3 Advertisers
  • We will select target members based on specific activities and provide Seller statistics and usage behavior to advertising providers (such as Google, Meta, Criteo), so that advertising providers can use algorithms or other methods to find the most suitable advertising targets for us.
  • When Seller uses the Coupang Ads service, we may also provide your contact information to the advertising agencies we work with so that they can contact you and provide better advertising services.
3 . 4 Competent Authorities / Judicial Authorities / Other Parties.
When we need to fulfill legal obligations or exercise our legal rights, we may provide Seller data to the competent authorities or judicial authorities, or to parties we entrust to handle related matters (e.g., law firms, accounting firms).

4. The Duration of Our Utilization/Retention of Your Personal Information

4 . 1  We will utilize personal information for the entire duration needed to serve the purposes listed in Article 2. Upon the achievement or if these specific purposes cease to exist (for instance, when a potential Seller expresses no desire to receive cooperation information, terminates the agreement between the two parties, or deletes the Seller’s account), we will cease utilizing your personal information for such purposes.


4 . 2 Unless one of the following circumstances occurs, we will delete, destroy, or anonymize your personal information in an irreversible manner or render it unidentifiable upon the complete cessation of the specific purposes for which we collected your personal information:

  • The statutory period for retention.
  • Under reasonable presumption that the deletion of information shall infringe your protectable interests.
  • There is legitimate justification to suggest that the information cannot be deleted.
  • Your written confirmation not to delete the information.

5. What We Do to Protect the Safety of Your Personal Information

5 . 1 In order to prevent the Seller data from being stolen, altered, damaged, loss, leaked, or infringed in any other form, we take various management schemes and technical measures to safeguard the security of Seller information. For instance:
  • Conduct periodic internal audits toward information security and set up maintenance plan to ensure the information protection measures effectively function.
  • Implement security solutions, such as intrusion prevention systems, to prevent unauthorized external personnels from accessing and using the personal information.
  • Keep records of the personal information usage history and establish measures to prevent tampering or alteration of such records.
  • Encrypt personal data and any substantial data (such as passwords) during transmission.
  • Implement a system that can identify and prevent network intrusion attempts and can be monitored for 24 hours and install antivirus software to prevent computer virus attacks.
  • Exclusively granted access to personal information to employees under specific duties and on a need-to-know basis; and
  • Conduct periodic privacy and security obligation education training for employees handling personal information.
5 . 2 However, given the nature of the online environment, we cannot guarantee absolute security, and thus we had to remind you to diligently safeguard the security of the devices, equipment, and login information you use. This is to prevent unauthorized access, illegal usage, acquisition of login information, alteration of basic personal information, and destruction of records by others.

6. The Rights You Can Exercise and How to Exercise Them

6 . 1  Seller can operate on the website at all times:
  • To add or edit the pickup address, contact name, and phone number.
  • To update your primary contact number and email address.
6 . 2  According to the Personal Data Protection Act, data subject may exercise the rights in terms of its personal data to us. We will fulfill the data subject’s request in the statutory time period unless an exception stipulated by law applies:
  • The right to make an inquiry or access (completed within 15 days of acceptance: Should there be a necessity to extend the period, a written notice stating the reasons may be issued to extend the period by a maximum of 15 days).
  • The right to request a copy (completed within 15 days of acceptance; should there be a necessity to extend the period, a written notice stating the reasons may be issued to extend the period by a maximum of 15 days.).
  • The right to make a correction or update (completed within 30 days of acceptance: Should there be a necessity to extend the period, a written notice stating the reasons may be issued to extend the period by a maximum of 30 days.).
  • The right to suspend the collection, processing or use (completed within 30 days of acceptance: Should there be a necessity to extend the period, a written notice stating the reasons may be issued to extend the period by a maximum of 30 days.).
  • The right to delete your personal information (completed within 30 days of acceptance: Should there be a necessity to extend the period, a written notice stating the reasons may be issued to extend the period by a maximum of 30 days.).
